Notes From the Underground Nightmare and the Cat

iO Tillett Wright

It’s unusual for an opening act to outshine the headliner, but for Nightmare and the Cat it’s becoming par for the course. Led by the barely legal frontman Django James and his brother Samuel Stewart, the Los Angeles group is a rock ‘n’ roll force to be reckoned with. With moves not seen since Elvis Presley last took the stage, James and his cohorts are utterly captivating to watch and bring an energy to their live show that is increasingly rare. Nightmare performed at Mercury Lounge recently, celebrating the release of their self-titled EP, and held a dancing crowd under their spell from start to finish. Their showmanship is a testament to the brothers’ rightful position in the royal court of pop music as the children of the Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart and Bananarama’s Siobhan Fahey.
