Non-Christmas Alternatives!

1. Assemble the IKEA furniture that you purchased 3 years ago—you know who you are, IKEA consumer who excitedly runs home with their box of 2,000 un-assembled pieces only to stash the intimidating project in the back of a supply closet.  Think of the random nightstand or table as a 3-d puzzle, break out the champagne, and assemble with relatives and friends.

4. Watch Downton Abbey—all of Downton Abbey. Really this is one of the best time-passing activities of all, as you’ll watch yourself get hooked into an 8+ hour fiasco of period-drama fun.

5. Buy things out of boredom that you’ll regret—sometimes these frivolous purchases make for the best wardrobe additions…especially when they’re pulled off of Etsy.  We’ve recently spotted everything  from ‘NSYNC charm bracelets to hand-painted flats, meaning that everyone (even if you are bored at home with a menorah) is a winner this weekend.

3. Read an actual newspaper! It’s easy to pass off your digital readings as a time-saver, but there’s no reason not to read your local paper in print on Christmas weekend.  It’s relaxing and you’ll help save a time-honored tradition in the process.

2. Volunteer with that charity you’ve wanted to help out—yes, there are a multitude of excuses for putting off good-natured volunteer work, though it’s hard to justify claims that you’re “busy” when it’s quite clear that you have absolutely nothing going on.  In the words of Nike coach factory outlet, “Just do it.”
