Make Up For Ever #N40 Rouge Artist Natural Lipstick

It looked a bit pale and pastel when swatched, but it should flatter a wider range of skin tones once it is applied, because it’s not fully opaque and lets the natural lip color shine through, which will, inevitably, alter the way the color looks based on your natural lip color. This formula is supposed to be extremely hydrating (purportedly “for eight hours after application”). The color applies with quite a bit of pigmentation, but there’s that soft, slightly transparent-nature of this type of finish that makes it less heavy. Although, the press release says the formula “provides translucent shine with sheer yet radiant color,” and this applies rather opaque.

Make Up For Ever #N40 Rouge Artist Natural Lipstick ($19.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “pastel coral.” It’s more along the lines of a light-medium peach-orange with a glistening sheen. On my lips, it looks softer, less like Creamiscle orange, because of the natural tones of my lip color (and the redder your natural lip color, the more coral this will look). This looks a lot like Le Metier de Beaute Ginger Lily but a bit darker. MAC Woo Me is also similar applied.

The Glossover

I found #N40 to be more moisturizing than Folk, but this shade also had a creamier, more slippery consistency in comparison. It wears three and a half hours on me Coach Outlet, which is pretty good for something that has this kind of texture.  I’d describe it has lightly moisturizing, but it’s not as hydrating as described–I definitely couldn’t get away with not applying something else over an eight hour period.  It was scent- and taste-free.

Where to Buy: Sephora, $19
